Home United FC started the match expecting a victory to bring them joint top with SAFFC & Super Reds. Gombak United certainly didn't read the script, as they created problems for Home United right from the start. On 19 minutes, Gabriel Obatola punished Home United's slow start with the first goal.
Home United woke up after conceding the goal. Sharil Ishak had a great chance to equalize within 5 minutes, but he shot over the bar with only the goalkeeper to beat. Gombak United were causing problems down Home United's left flank, with their fullback overlapping to great effect. On 30th minute, a cross from their right winger was not dealt with by Home United's defenders. The ball fell nicely to Emmanuel Emuejeraye who had the simplest task of controlling and guiding the ball into the net to make it 2-0.
Two goals down, Home United started their revival. Good build up play ensured plenty of chances but there was no end product. The half ended 0-2.
In the 2nd half, Home United made a change in personel with Thai winger Naruphol Ar-Romsawa taking over from the ineffective Farhan Farook. The change took immediate effect as Home United pulled one back. Peres De Oliveira once again scored with another of his trademark free-kick. With the winds in their sail, Home United poured forward, looking for the equalizer. On 82nd minute, Valery Heik started the celebrations after scoring from a corner. Gombak United, stunned with Home's comeback were not giving up. They had two good chances to re-take the lead but on both occasions, the shots went just wide. Into injury time, Gombak were awarded a freekick at the edge of the box, Gombak's own Thai import Theerawesin stepped up and delivered the ball into the back of the net to send wild celebrations among Gombak's bench. Gombak United thought they had it all sewn up with this late goal, but Home United were known for their late goals. As expected, Home United pulled another rabbit out of the hat.
Overall, it was a great match for the neutrals. Plenty of chances, plenty of goals. Who said local football was not entertaining ?
